Khanna played lead roles in many movies and is best remembered for his performance in Mere Apne, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Gaddaar, Jail Yatra, Imtihaan, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, Inkaar, Kuchhe Dhaage, Amar Akbar Anthony, Rajput, Qurbani, Kudrat, Dayavan, Kaarnama,Suryaa: An Awakening and Jurm.[6]

After making his debut in , Khanna first acted in small roles or negative roles.

His angry young man role in the movie Mere Apne,[7] his negative role as the main villain in the superhit movie Mera Gaon Mera Desh[6] and his role in the crtically acclaimed movie Achanak based on the events of the popular case K. M. Nanavati v.

Death

Khanna died on 27 April at a hospital in Mumbai from bladder cancer at the age of [16][17]
